India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has rejoined the team in Australia ahead of the second Test in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The match, set to be a day-night affair with the pink ball, will commence on Friday, December 6, at the Adelaide Oval. Gambhir returned to the squad after attending to a family emergency in India.

The former cricketer had left the team following their commanding 295-run victory in the opening Test at Perth. During his absence, India played a two-day warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra. Despite rain washing out the first day, the game was shortened to a 46-over-per-side contest. The Indian team showcased a strong performance, securing a six-wicket win. Harshit Rana impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets, while Shubman Gill (50), Yashasvi Jaiswal (45), Nitish Reddy (42), and Washington Sundar (42) contributed valuable runs with the bat.

Gautam Gambhir’s return boosts preparations for pink-ball challenge

Gambhir’s immediate focus upon his return was to attend the training session of the Indian contingent  for the second Test and he did the same.

India’s preparations have received a boost with the arrival of regular captain Rohit Sharma, who missed the Perth Test due to the birth of his second child. Rohit’s return provides the team with a wealth of experience as they gear up for the challenge of playing under lights with the pink ball.

The Indian squad reached Adelaide from Canberra on Monday afternoon and will have three training sessions before the match. Two of these sessions will be conducted under lights to help players adapt to the conditions unique to day-night Tests.
