Lucknow Super Giants missed out on the playoffs in IPL 2024. After progressing ahead of the league stage in their first two IPL seasons, the Lucknow-based outfit could not finish in the top four in the last season. They were in the race till the last but failed to grab their opportunities.

For the upcoming season, Lucknow Super Giants are gearing up to make a fresh start. With KL Rahul no more a part of the team, they will have a new captain. The Lucknow-based outfit will have the services of players such as Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Yadav, David Miller, and Mitchell Marsh in the next season.

At the same time, they could also miss the services of a few players that they decided against buying or failed to buy in the auction. So, here we are taking a look at three such players.

IPL 2025: Players Lucknow Super Giants will regret missing out on

KL Rahul:

Lucknow Super Giants’ decision to not retain their captain KL Rahul took the cricketing fraternity by surprise. Rahul has been one of the best batsmen in the IPL in the last few years and not many were expecting him to be released. However, the Super Giants not only released him but also decided against going for him in the auction.

They had the RTM option but they did not use it in the auction. In the end, Delhi Capitals signed up Rahul for INR 14 crore. Rahul has been playing for the Super Giants since the 2022 season. In IPL 2022, he scored 616 runs before scoring 274 runs in the 2023 season. In the last season, Rahul scored 520 runs. He also led the Super Giants in all three seasons.

Marcus Stoinis:

A quality fast-bowling allrounder is a must for any team, especially in T20 formats and the Super Giants had the services of Marcus Stoinis in the previous three seasons. However, the Super Giants will be without the Australian for the next season.

Stoinis made an impact with both bat and ball last season. With the bat, he scored 388 runs including a match-winning century and two fifties. With the ball, he picked up four wickets. The Super Giants, however, did not go for him in the auction and would be hoping that the decision does not come back to haunt them.

They did not make a single bid for him and also decided against using the RTM option. In the end, Punjab Kings signed up Stoinis for 11 crore.

Jake Fraser-McGurk:

After releasing both KL Rahul as well as Quinton de Kock, Lucknow Super Giants needed a quality opener and they went for Jake Fraser-McGurk in the auction. However, the Super Giants did not really go big for Australia, and would be hoping that they do not regret their decision in the future.
