Team India skipper Rohit Sharma minced no words while expressing disappointment after the loss in the second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Rohit Sharma stated that Australia outplayed his team and also admitted that they failed to capitalize on key opportunities during the match.

After a 295-run win in the series opener in Perth, India entered the day-night Test with high hopes. However, they suffered a 10-wicket defeat on Day 3 of the second Test in Adelaide on Sunday, December 8. The Indian batters struggled in both innings as they failed to put up a fight against Australia’s bowlers.

We Didn’t Play Well Enough To Win The Game – Rohit Sharma

Speaking after the match, Rohit Sharma said that his team didn’t perform well enough to win. He also added that India missed key opportunities during the match, which cost them the game.

“Disappointing week for us. We didn’t play well enough to win the game and Australia played better than us. There were times in the game where we could have grabbed those opportunities but we failed to do that and that has cost us the game,” said Rohit Sharma at the post-match presentation.

What We Did in Perth Was Very Very Special – Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma, who missed the series opener in Perth, said the victory in that match was pretty special. Sharma expressed excitement ahead of the upcoming Gabba Test, where they secured a victory in their last Australia tour.

“Yeah absolutely, I mean look you know what we did in Perth was very very special and we wanted to come out here and do that again but again we know that every Test match has its own challenge. We knew it was going to be challenging with the pink ball but again like I said you know Australia was better than us,” said Rohit.

“Yeah, we’re quite looking forward to it (Gabba Test). There’s not much time in between as well. You know we just want to go out there and think about what we did right, you know in Pert,h and also what we did last time when we were here. Some really good memories there, hopefully we understand the challenges of every Test match. We want to start well and play well,” he concluded.

Adelaide Test Becomes Shortest Between India and Australia in History

The Indian cricket team managed to score only 175 runs in their second innings, with Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy providing some resistance. Rohit and Virat Kohli failed to show any fight.

Australia completed the chase of 19 runs in only 3.2 overs. The hosts wrapped up the game in the first session of Day 3. This match became the shortest between India and Australia and the fourth shortest completed Test in Australia based on balls bowled.
