Ireland’s Aimee Maguire in BIG trouble for suspect bowling action, ICC to investigate

Ireland Women’s National Cricket Team spinner Aimee Maguire has come under the massive scanner for her bowling action during the ongoing series against the India Women’s National Cricket Team. The two teams are currently locking horns with each other in the three-match ODI series.

Aimee Maguire came under scanner after her bowling in the first game of the series against the India Women’s National Cricket Team in Rajkot. The off-spinner was decent with the ball as she bowled eight overs in the game and returned with the figures of 3/57.

ICC sends official letter to Cricket Ireland over illegal bowling action of spinner Aimee Maguire

Following the match, the officials handed the report to the Ireland Women’s National Cricket Team management. After that, the International Cricket Council (ICC) sent an official letter to Cricket Ireland, confirming that the illegal bowling action was reported after the match.

Aimee Maguire will now have to report to the ICC Accredited Test Centre for testing within the next 14 days. The testing will determine if the spinner’s bowling action is in violation of ICC regulations. But as per the rules, she will be allowed to bowl until the testing results are available.

The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, reassuring her that she will return with a stronger action – CI’s director of high performance, Graeme West

The Cricket Ireland’s director of high performance, Graeme West, expressed her support towards Aimee Maguire. Releasing the official statement, he said that all the players and staff have extended their support to the Spinner, boosting her that she will continue to shine on the international stage.

“The staff and players are rallying around Aimee, reassuring her that she will return with a stronger action and will continue to shine on the international stage for many years to come,” Graeme West said in a statement.

Graeme West further stated that their high-performance coaching and support service will help Aimee in her remedial program, revealing that it will begin after the series against India. He elaborated:

“The experience and expertise that we possess within our High Performance Coaching and Support Services at Cricket Ireland, will provide Aimee with the care, support and guidance to deliver the remedial programme which will begin following the team’s return from India.”

Aimee Maguire has played 11 ODIs and nine T20Is for Ireland

Aimee Maguire, 18, made her debut debut in 2023. So far, she has played 11 ODIs and nine T20Is, taking 25 wickets in all with a best of 5 for 19 against England in an ODI last year. She would be keen to correct her action and return back to international cricket even stronger.

Maguire didn’t find a place in Ireland’s XI for the ongoing second ODI against India. She was replaced by Ava Canning in the XI. Along with her, the visitors also made one change, adding Alana Dalzell to the XI.
