Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner Maheesh Theekshana has put a massive stride forward in the ICC rankings for bowlers in the ODIs. This comes after his sensational performances with the ball in the series against the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
Maheesh Theekshana moved into the top three of the ICC Men’s One-Day Rankings for the first time. The spinner was at his best with the ball against the New Zealand National Cricket Team. He picked 7 wickets in the two games and put his team on top.
Maheesh Theekshana climbs to 663 rating points, achieves his career-high ranking in the ODI cricket
Theekshana picked four wickets in the first ODI that included a hat-trick as well. The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner returned with the figures of 4/44 in the first ODI. In the second game, he picked three wickets but unfortunately couldn’t help his team win as they lost the series by 2-1.
Maheesh Theekshana climbed to 663 rating points and now enjoys a career-high ranking tally in the ICC’s latest rankings. The Sri Lanka National Cricket Team spinner is now six points behind front-runner Rashid Khan (669) and two behind India’s Kuldeep Yadav (665), the world’s current top two.

Maheesh Theekshana also climbed four spots up in the All-Rounder Rankings after his contributions with the bat. The spinner climbed four spots to equal 26th. Mohammad Nabi (300) remains in the top spot ahead of Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza (290).
Apart from Maheesh Theekshana, New Zealand National Cricket Team pacer Matt Herny also made gains in the ICC Rankings for bowlers in ODIs. The fast bowler had nine wickets at an average of 10.33. He moved up three spots to equal-ninth with 635 rating points.
New Zealand National Cricket Team skipper Mitchell Santner also made a rise. He climbed two places to 15th. This comes after he came up with decent performances. Asitha Fernando climbed up 34 places to equal the 97th spot after his spell of 3-26 off seven overs.
Babar Azam, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli stay at the top of the ICC ODI rankings for batters
In terms of the ICC batting rankings for ODIs, there wasn’t much change. Pakistan batter Babar Azam, with rating points of 795, stays at the top, followed by India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma, who is at No.2 with 765 points. Shubman Gill (763) and Virat Kohli (746) are third and fourth respectively. They all have having opportunity to better their effort as the ODI series for Pakistan and India is around the corner followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka (622) scored only four runs in New Zealand, including two ducks, resulting in a five-place Rankings slide to 18th. Apart from this, there wasn’t any change in the ICC ODI rankings.
