Pakistan’s pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi and South Africa’s young batting sensation Matthew Breetzke were spotted involving in a heated exchange during the third game of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series at National Stadium in Karachi on Wednesday. The altercation took place twice in the same over, prompting the match officials to step in and restore order.
Shaheen Afridi gets involved in war of words with Matthew Breetzke
Notably, tensions flared in the 28th over of Proteas innings, as Shaheen and Breetzke were seen engaged in a war of words. The Pakistani fast bowler appeared visibly upset, leading to Mohammad Rizwan, South Africa captain Temba Bavuma, and the on-field umpire stepping in to ease the situation. Visuals indicated that Shaheen was displeased with Breetzke for running down the pitch, possibly affecting the surface for bowlers.
Further altercation adds more drama
Matters escalated at the end of the over when Shaheen aggressively moved toward Breetzke. Footage showed the South African batter attempting a quick single toward deep square leg but unintentionally brushing against Shaheen, seemingly trying to sidestep him. This sparked visible anger from the Pakistani speedster, prompting Khushdil Shah to intervene and push Breetzke away, before the umpire once again stepped in to separate the players.

Breetzke’s notable knock before his departure
Despite the tension, Breetzke continued his fine run with the bat, scoring a solid 83 runs before eventually being dismissed. The right-handed batter, who had registered a brilliant century against New Zealand in the previous game, struck 10 boundaries and a maximum in his impressive knock.
