The International Cricket Council (ICC) has come up with a massive punishment for a former assistant coach of a franchise in the Abu Dhabi T10 League, Sunny Dhillon. He has been banned from all forms of cricket for 6 years after he was found guilty of breaching the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code.
Sunny Dhillon was among the 8 people, who were accused of breaching the Anti-Corruption Code of the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) last year. He was charged with an attempt to match-fixing during the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and since then has been kept away.
Sunny Dhillon’s attempted to influence the outcome of matches
Sunny Dhillon’s attempt to influence the outcome of matches during the tournament, was disrupted by the ICC and the Designated Anti-Corruption Official (DACO) for the purposes of the ECB’s Code for the tournament.
The global cricket body was appointed by the ECB as the Designated Anti-Corruption Official.
Sunny Dhillon found guilty of breaching four articles of the Abu Dhabi T10 League
Sunny Dhillon was found guilty of breaching four articles. This came after the full hearing and presentation of written as well as oral arguments. The assistant coach of the franchise was charged under:
Article 2.1.1 – Being party to an attempt to fix, contrive or influence improperly matches or aspects of matches in the Abu Dhabi T10 2021.
Article 2.4.4 – Failing to disclose to the DACO full details of any approaches or invitations received to engage in Corrupt Conduct under the Code.
Article 2.4.6 – Failing or refusing, without compelling justification, to cooperate with any investigation carried out by the DACO in relation to possible Corrupt Conduct under the Code
Sunny Dhillon was suspended on 13 September 2023, and hence, his ban will be back-dated to last year. For the next 6 years, he won’t be able to take part in any cricket, potentially ending his career as the coach

Sunny Dhillon has been found to have breached the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code and has been banned from all cricket for six years. This also highlights the ECB’s firm stance on maintaining the integrity of cricket by punishing any corrupt practices.
Releasing the Official statement, ICC said: “Sunny Dhillon has been found to have breached the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) Anti-Corruption Code and has been banned from all cricket for a period of six years.
Dhillon, a former assistant coach of a franchise team, was one of eight individuals charged last year for breaching the Anti-Corruption Code. The charges are related to the 2021 Abu Dhabi T10 Cricket League and alleged attempts to influence the outcome of matches during the tournament.”
