Cheteshwar Pujara points out the major reason behind Rohit Sharma’s poor form

India’s captain Rohit Sharma‘s ongoing struggles with form continued on Day 4 of the third Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba in Brisbane as the skipper, once again, failed to make a significant contribution with the bat. His persistent low scores have raised concerns as Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara shared a significant insight into the cause of Rohit’s struggles.

Cheteshwar Pujara points out the major reason behind Rohit Sharma’s poor form

Pujara highlighted that Rohit, who is accustomed to opening the innings, is now batting at number 6 for the team’s needs. However, he believes this shift can create doubt and disrupt momentum, as adjusting to a lower batting position after regularly opening is challenging.

“He has been opening the innings, now he’s batting at number 6. That is for the team, but I still feel that when you are so much used to opening the innings and when you have to wait, then you put yourself in that doubt. I mean, it doesn’t help you when you’re opening innings and you suddenly start batting at number 6. So that you don’t get that momentum either,” Pujara said on Star Sports.

Rohit Sharma falls to Pat Cummins’ precise bowling

Rohit was dismissed cheaply once again in India’s first innings during the 24th over. Pat Cummins, with his trademark precision, delivered a probing ball outside off-stump, which lured the Indian skipper into an uncertain forward movement. Rohit’s lack of footwork proved costly as he edged the ball straight into the gloves of wicketkeeper Alex Carey.

The dismissal marked another low score for Mumbai lad in the ongoing series. Across three innings so far, the right handed batter has managed to score just 19 runs, with his highest being 10. The Indian captain’s inconsistency with the bat has added pressure on the middle order, which has been struggling against a relentless Australian bowling attack.
