Travis Head expressed his satisfaction with his contribution to Australia’s historic win over India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 at home. On Sunday, January 4, Australia crushed India by six wickets in the fifth and final match to clinch the Test series 3-1 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

In a battle between two formidable teams, Travis Head felt it was crucial to make an impact whenever possible. He highlighted the importance of building a strong partnership with Usman Khawaja, which helped Australia secure a commanding position in the game.

Travis Head said after the SCG Test: “Nice to contribute; I don’t worry about the results too much. Two great teams; it felt like it would be nice if I could come out and contribute. Same approach as always; I felt like I was moving well and knew that if I could build a partnership with Usman, we would be well placed.”

Acknowledging India’s strong performances, especially during their previous tour and even in challenging conditions like Perth, Head praised their ability to push Australia onto the back foot at times. He also lauded Player of the Series Jasprit Bumrah and Nitish Kumar Reddy, who left a strong impression on his debut Test series, that too in Australia.

The Australian star added, “The last series here they played exceptionally well; even in Perth they put us on the back foot. It’s been a crazy five Tests; the guys that got through all five are probably looking forward to some time off. There’s been a lot of media attention too. I think there were 15 people really pleased that Bumrah didn’t bowl today. He’s a great performer; he had an exceptional tour. Nitish too; I already knew how good he was. They have a lot of players that play well.”

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was a grueling contest, spanning five intense Test matches, and Travis Head acknowledged the toll it took on players, who played across the five venues. Now, Head is looking forward to a much-needed break before starting preparations for the Sri Lanka series.

Head signed off by saying, “We played extremely well too and stepped it up. I’m wrecked; I don’t know what I’m going to do for the next 10 days. I’ll look after myself and get prepared for Sri Lanka.”

In the batting front, Steve Smith (314 runs in 9 innings) and Head (2024-25 BGT’s leading run scorer with 448 runs) were amongst the runs and that saved the Test series against India, and that’s how Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar trophy after 10 years.
