Rohit Sharma 15

India National Cricket Team skipper Rohit Sharma has expressed his desire to continue playing till 2027. As per the reports in Dainik Jagran, it is learned that the opening batter wants to play in the ICC World Cup 2027 as well as the next edition of the ICC World Test Championship.

This comes as a huge development because, in the last few days, there have been a lot of talks about his retirement. Many media reports suggested that he won’t be part of the India National Cricket Team setup in Tests and ODIs after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Rohit Sharma turns up for practice with the Mumbai Ranji Team

With Rohit now confirming that he will be playing in the ICC World Cup 2027 as well as the next edition of the ICC World Test Championship, this means that the batter has set his eye on making a strong comeback. This was quite evident when the captain turned out for practice with the Mumbai Ranji Team.

Rohit was seen batting in the match simulation and there have been reports that he will be playing the next match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 for Mumbai, which will be playing against Jammu and Kashmir. The match between the teams is all set to take place from 23rd January at the Mumbai Cricket Association’s BKC ground.

Rohit reportedly batted for 40-45 minutes during the match simulation as he eyes some rhythm. The next major assignment for him will be the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He will be leading the team in the tournament and would want to make a massive impact on the Team.

Rohit Sharma has been undergoing a lean patch in the Tests

Rohit Sharma has been undergoing a lean patch in the Tests. He hasn’t been at his best since the home series against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. He failed to get going in the New Zealand series, and then the same fate unfolded for him in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

As a captain, too, Rohit Sharma looked torrid. It was under him that the India National Cricket Team went on to face the whitewash in the home Test series against New Zealand. After that, they lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 by 3-1 and failed to qualify for the ICC World Test Championship final.

The fate of Rohit Sharma might depend on the way he performs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Since then, there have been a lot of calls related to his snub from the Tests. Some reports have claimed that selectors have already found a successor in Jasprit Bumrah. But along with that, they will be finding a strong vice-captain who can lead the team in the absence of a pacer.

The fate of Rohit Sharma might depend on the way he performs in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The tournament is all set to kick start on 19th February, and India will open their campaign against Bangladesh on 20th February in Dubai.
