The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 saga is yet to reach any conclusion. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that there is no immediate resolution in sight for the event as the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are not unable to reach common ground.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is just 75 days away now, and so far, there isn’t any clarity related to the venue as well as the schedule of the tournament. It was expected that the final decision about the event would come on Wednesday (December 11), when the ICC meeting was scheduled.
ICC is unlikely to make any announcement related to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 anytime soon
However, the reports in Cricbuzz claimed that ICC is unlikely to make any announcement related to the same. It is also learned that there is no meeting scheduled as well.
The meeting between the ICC Board members was postponed due to the lack of consensus on how the ICC Champions Trophy should be conducted. The ICC, BCCI, and the PCB aren’t on the same page, and even though most of the things have been sorted, the conclusion is yet to be reached because of the clash of opinions among the three parties.
The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is expected to be played in a hybrid model, PCB has kept demands to accept the two-nation formula
The ICC Champions Trophy is expected to be played in a hybrid model, but the problem seems to be in future events. To accept the two-nation model, PCB wants all the ICC events in India to be played in a Hybrid model for the next three years. Apart from this, they have made three more demands.
But the BCCI isn’t agreeing to those demands, and their stance reportedly is backed by the broadcasters, whose investments are based on territory-specific India games. To compensate Pakistan, there was an attempt to host a tri-series involving India and another country, but it was rejected by the BCCI as well as the ICC.
Broadcasters might raise calls to convert the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 into T20 format
The ICC already has passed the 90-day deadline before the event for announcing the schedule of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The broadcaster reportedly is under pressure to market the tournament effectively. The reports claimed that if the schedule didn’t come on time, broadcasters might raise calls to convert the tournament into T20 format.
ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will be played in the Hybrid model, will see 10 games in Pakistan and potentially five in another country – either the UAE or Sri Lanka. The five games that will be played in another country will be three league games of India along with the semi-final and the final.
