India National Cricket Team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal opened up about the toughest batter that he has bowled to in his career. The leg-spinner named Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran, saying that both the batters have so much power to hit big sixes.
Yuzvendra Chahal is one of the finest leg-spinners to have played the game of cricket. The Indian player has been the proven match-winner for the national team, but even more than that, he has been top-notch in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League
Yuzvendra Chahal is the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with 205 wickets under his belt. The India spinner will be playing for Punjab Kings in the upcoming edition of the league after he was acquired by the franchise for the whopping amount of ₹18 crore.
Since the last few years, Yuzvendra Chahal has always been coming up in the list of purple cap, and with the kind of impact that he has made, he is expected to replicate the same this time, too. The leg-spinner over the years has had his battles with several players but his clever mind always kept him at the top in the end.
But against Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran, Yuzvendra Chahal has always found things challenging. He stressed that even the mis-hit from two power-hitters goes for six, and it’s very hard to bowl to them.
They have so much power that sometimes even the edges go for sixes – Yuzvendra Chahal on Heinrich Klaasen and Nicholas Pooran
Yuzvendra Chahal, however, was quick to quip that he doesn’t look at reputation as he just wants to win the battle with the ball. He stressed that everything depends on the mind. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he explained:
“Heinrich Klaasen is one, Nicolas Pooran another,” he replies. “They have so much power that sometimes even the edges go for sixes. They are the ones who are challenging. I have gone for sixes against them and done well against them too. But, when I bowl, I don’t look at the name.
“When you look at their reputation, it will create pressure on you. I have the ball, they have the bat. I have to win the battle.“I am not 6’5” or very broad. Mera sab kuch mind pe hai (My mind is everything to me). I always focus on that.”
“You are the one who will break my record” – Yuzvendra Chahal to Arshdeep Singh
Yuzvendra Chahal will be teaming up with Arshdeep Singh in the Punjab Kings. The two had an internal battle as the pacer recently surpassed the leg-spinner to become India’s leading wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game.
While talking about the same, Yuzvendra Chahal revealed that during the T20 World Cup 2024, he told Arshdeep Singh that he is the one who will break his record. He added:
“When we were together at the (2024) T20 World Cup, I had told Arshdeep “you are the one who will break my record”. I am very happy for him.”
The IPL 2025 is all set to begin on 22nd March. Punjab Kings will open their campaign against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi International Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on 25th March.
