Former Australia National Cricket Team and Mumbai Indians player Michael Hussey opened up about the incident when Jasprit Bumrah gave an aggressive send-off to AB de Villiers in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He revealed how he calmed the fast bowler after he removed the batter.

Jasprit Bumrah is no doubt one of the best pacers in World cricket. The premier pacer has put in a long stride in his career, and it’s fair to say that currently, there isn’t anyone near to him; such has been his impact on the game in all three formats.

Jasprit Bumrah rose to the ranks in the IPL while playing for the Mumbai Indians

Bumrah rose to the ranks in the IPL while playing for the Mumbai Indians in the league. He made his debut under the leadership of Rohit Sharma in 2013 and played with some of the stalwarts of the game in Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting, Michael Hussey, and others.

Jasprit Bumrah, on his debut, left a lasting impact as he removed Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, returning with the figures of 3/32. While the fast bowler is now as calm as cucumber, in his early days he was fierce as young blood rushed through his veins.

I remember just pulling Bumrah aside and saying, ‘Mate, you don’t need to do that – Michael Hussey

Michael Hussey, who played with Jasprit Bumrah, talked about how the fast bowler gave a stare to AB de Villiers in his early days after removing him. He stressed that the send-off didn’t go well with the RCB batter, and he went to him to calm him down.

Michael Hussey also revealed how he made Jasprit Bumrah understand that the biggest sledge that a bowler can give to a batter is by taking his wicket. While elaborating on the same in a conversation with Willow Talk Podcast, he explained:

“He burst onto the scene in the IPL. I remember having one stern word with him, though. In one of his early games, he got AB de Villiers out, obviously a great of the game and gave him a big send-off, and AB wasn’t too happy about it. He sort of stared him down, and I remember just pulling Bumrah aside and saying, ‘Mate, you don’t need to do that,”

“You have got that much skill that much talent, getting the wicket is enough. That’s the biggest sledge you can give, you don’t need to give send-offs if you want to have respect in the game and get respected by your peers then maybe just don’t give send-offs’.”

Jasprit Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25

Jasprit Bumrah is currently playing the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 for the Indian team. The premier fast bowler has set the stage on fire and is currently the leading wicket-taker in the series with 21 scalps to his name. He recently went past Kapil Dev’s tally of 51 wickets with the most wickets for Indian bowlers down under.

He will be next seen in action during the next match of the series. The Boxing Day match between the teams will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 26th December.
