Australia National Cricket Team skipper Pat Cummins opened up about Travis Head‘s celebration after taking the wicket of Rishabh Pant in the second innings of the fourth Test. He said that it was a running joke inside the camp and was not something to mock the India National Cricket Team.
Travis Head yet again proved to be a massive hurdle for the India National Cricket Team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. However, this time around, he chipped in with the ball and changed the entire course of the game in favor of the Australia National Cricket Team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant bring India back into the game after three early wickets
In the chase of 340 runs, after the India National Cricket Team lost three quick wickets, it was Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant who brought the India National Cricket Team back into the game. The duo joined hands and batted magnificently, taking the team out of trouble and putting pressure back on the opposition.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant made sure that the India National Cricket Team didn’t lose any wickets in the post-lunch session as they were pretty solid with the bat. The duo added 88 runs together and with the way they were going, it seemed that they would help Team draw the match.
Travis Head removes Rishabh Pant, and comes up with a unique celebration
But the change in the situation came when Head was given the ball in the last session. He proved to be the man with a golden arm as he removed Rishabh Pant. It’s fair to say that the wicket changed the course of the game and also triggered the collapse of the India National Cricket Team.
Travis Head bowled a short-pitched ball, that tempted Rishabh Pant to go for a big pull shot, but he didn’t get the proper connection as he was caught in the long-on. This saw pressure being mounted in the Indian camp as they lost seven wickets for only 34 runs in the final session and went on to lose the game by the margin of 184 runs.
What caught the attention of many was the reaction of Travis Head after taking the wicket. The Australia National Cricket Team batter came up with a unique kind of celebration as he pointed his finger to his other palm, which was shaped like a hole.
This saw Travis Head facing a lot of criticism for his celebration. There were even calls by fans and experts for the ICC to take action against the batter. It became the major talking point but Skipper Pat Cummins has ended the debate around it by explaining it.
His finger is so hot, that he is going to put it in a cup of ice – Pat Cummins on Travis Head’s ‘in the hole’ celebration
Pat Cummins said that it was Travis Head’s celebration, where his finger was hot, and he put it in a cup of ice. He explained after that batter took wickets in one of the games and went straight to grab a bucket of ice to put his finger in it to mock Nathan Lyon. Speaking to reporters, he explained:
“Oh, sorry! Yes, okay! I can explain that. His finger is so hot, that he is going to put it in a cup of ice. Yes, that’s what it is. That’s normally the running joke. Was it at the Gabba or somewhere, where he got a wicket as well and just got straight to the fridge, grabs a bucket of ice, puts his finger in and just walks in front of Lyon (Nathan Lyon). Just like that, thinks its very funny. So that’s what it would have been, nothing else.”
