Australian veteran off-spinner Nathan Lyon has revealed a light-hearted story about a sledge from young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal during the first Test match. Nathan Lyon stated that Yashasvi Jaiswal called him “old” during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series opener in Perth.
Lyon is the third-highest wicket-taker for Australia in Test cricket. The off-spinner has secured an impressive 532 wickets in 130 Test matches at a decent average of 30.4, with 24 five-wicket hauls and five 10-wicket hauls. However, he failed to make an impact with the ball during the recent Test match.
He Said That to Me When I Was Bowling – Nathan Lyon
Speaking on SEN 1170 The Run Home with Joel and Fletch, Nathan Lyon recalled Yashasvi Jaiswal calling him old when the batter was in fine form during the second innings of the opening Test. However, Lyon took it in good spirits, laughing it off as part of the fun.
“Young Jaiswal, he said that you’re a legend, but you’re old, he said that to me when I was bowling,” Lyon recounted while speaking on SEN Radio.
“He said that to me when he was muscling about at 120, but ya, it’s all good fun. Appreciate that, mate, but I don’t feel that old.”
Yashasvi Jaiswal Scored Century in His Maiden Test Match in Australia
Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the Perth Test. However, he made a strong comeback with a brilliant century in the second innings. He kept Nathan Lyon on the back foot with his batting. Jaiswal also displayed the same attacking approach against Australia’s pace trio.
The left-handed batter scored 161 runs off 297 balls, including 15 fours and three sixes, as India declared their second innings at a total of 487/6. Virat Kohli also ended a century drought in Tests, scoring an unbeaten 100 runs. They helped the visiting team secure a 295-run win in the recent match.
India to Face Australia in Pink-Ball Test in Adelaide From December 6
The Indian team wants to extend their series lead with a win in Adelaide when the Day-Night Test begins. Jaiswal could face challenges against Australia’s bowling attack with the pink ball. India will aim to avoid the negative memories from their poor performance in the pink-ball Test during the 2020-21 tour.
The second Test between India and Australia is scheduled to begin on Friday, December 6, at the Adelaide Oval. Jaiswal will play his first pink-ball Test. He showed good form in the practice game against the Prime Minister’s XI, scoring 45 runs. He will hope to maintain that form in the upcoming game.
The Adelaide Oval has been a successful venue for Nathan Lyon in Test cricket. Lyon has taken 63 wickets in 13 Test matches at an impressive average of 25.27. His best performance at the ground came during the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener, where he secured 12 wickets against Team India.
