The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have opened up on a reported meeting scheduled between them and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to discuss the matters related to the Champions Trophy 2025.
A Pakistan Cricket Board source has shot down the reports of the high-stakes meeting with ICC and BCCI regarding the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and said that they are not aware of it.
India refused to visit Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025
The Indian government has denied permission to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to send Team India to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
This information has officially been conveyed to the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). There have been demands for the marquee tournament to be played in a Hybrid Model, but the PCB is against it.
Pakistan want to host all the matches on home soil, including the games of India. However, with India’s rejection to visit Pakistan, there has been a huge controversy, which has led to a delay in the schedule announcement.
The dates for the tournament were previously revealed, and it will be played from February 19 to March 9, but the full schedule of the competition, as well as the venues, are yet to be announced.
A few days back, reportedly, an event was scheduled to announce the fixtures, but at the last moment, it was canceled. There were also reports of Pakistan pulling out of the competition if they were forced to adopt a Hybrid Model.
We have no information from the ICC about any meeting between us, BCCI and ICC – -PCB
A PCB source spoke about the reports of the meeting and said that the board has no such information about the matter
“We have no information from the ICC about any meeting between us, BCCI and ICC,” a reliable PCB source told PTI.
Also, the source has revealed that the International Cricket Council has not yet responded to the email sent by the Pakistan Cricket Board, asking the reasons behind India’s rejection to visit Pakistan.
Notably, India have not visited Pakistan for a very long time due to the poor relations between the two countries. The last time India visited Pakistan for a bilateral series was in 2005-2006. After that, the Men In Blue also visited Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2008.
It is a virtual meeting of the Executive Board members – ICC Soucre
As the Pakistan Cricket Board rubbished the report of the meeting with ICC and BCCI, a source from the world body said that an internal meeting is indeed planned and could take place on Tuesday to discuss the Champions Trophy matters.
“It is a virtual meeting of the Executive Board members to resolve the issue of the Champions Trophy schedule once for all,” he disclosed.
Also, there are plans to land on the final decision based on the votes from the other nations as the broadcasters are demanding the announcement of the schedule as soon as possible, and they also want India and Pakistan to face each other in the group stage.
“There is a chance that there could be a vote on what to do and whether the event should be held — in Pakistan, relocate it or adopt the Hybrid Model as suggested by the BCCI with India playing its matches in the UAE,” he added.
“The PCB has also made it clear that even if the Hybrid model is adopted it will not play its group match against India in Dubai,” the source said.
