Australia star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell lauded India pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 series opener. Glenn Maxwell said that Jasprit Bumrah will finish as one of the greatest fast bowlers, despite taking fewer wickets than others across three formats.
Bumrah captained India in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia, where they secured a 295-run victory at the Optus Stadium in Perth. He was named Player of the Match for his stellar performance. The right-arm pacer took 8 wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.
Jasprit Bumrah Is Going To Go Down As The Best Fast Bowler – Glenn Maxwell
Speaking on the Grade Cricketer Podcast, Glenn Maxwell shared how challenging it is for him to distinguish between Jasprit Bumrah’s bouncers and length balls. Maxwell said that Jasprit Bumrah’s unique bowling action and ability to move the ball both ways make him exceptionally difficult to face.
“It almost feels like his bouncer and his length ball are very similar to where his release point is, and it’s really hard to pick up the difference between those and ball always feels like it’s coming back into you and he’s got the ability to take the ball away, which just makes it extremely difficult,” Maxwell said on the Grade Cricketer Podcast.
“Bumrah is going to go down as potentially the best fast bowler of all time, maybe not with the amount of wickets he takes in every format. But for the guys that have played against him, it is just so difficult, so difficult. He’s just got such unique action, unique ability with the ball. He seems like a complete package,” he added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Gonna Get More Than 40 Test Hundreds – Glenn Maxwell
Glenn Maxwell predicted that Yashasvi Jaiswal would score over 40 Test centuries and break several records in his career. He stated that Jaiswal doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses, adding that he can absorb pressure for extended periods. Maxwell also said that Jaiswal would rewrite several records.
“Jaiswal as well, doesn’t seem to have many weaknesses, plays a short ball well, drives well, plays spin unbelievably well, and can absorb pressure for periods. He’s a guy that’s probably gonna get more than 40 test hundreds and re-write some different records as well,” he added.
Second Test Between India and Australia to Commence on December 6
Jasprit Bumrah played a key role in India’s fightback on Day 1 of the Perth Test match. The visiting team managed just 150 runs after winning the toss. Bumrah ran through Australia’s top order, dismissing Nathan McSweeney, Usman Khawaja, and Steve Smith, as Australia was bowled out for 104 runs.
With conditions easing on Day 2, the Indian team posted a massive total and set a 534-run target for Australia. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored an impressive 161 runs in the second innings to help secure Team India’s victory. The second Test, a day-night match, will begin in Adelaide on Friday, December 6.
