KL Rahul will be up for grabs in the upcoming IPL 2025 mega auction. One of the most successful batsmen in the IPL in recent years, the right-handed batsman has registered himself for the auction at the base price of INR 2 crore. He is one of the marquee players for the auction.
In the last season of the IPL, KL Rahul was representing Lucknow Super Giants. He has led the Lucknow-based outfit since 2022. In 2022 and 2023, KL Rahul led the team to the playoffs but failed to replicate that feat in IPL 2024.
Things went from bad to worse for him as his relationship with the team owner Sanjeev Goenka hit rock bottom.
After Lucknow Super Giants suffered a heavy defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad that all but ended their playoff chances, Goenka scolded KL Rahul publicly on the field.
Later in an interview, he opened up on the incident, saying: “Whatever happened on the field after the game wasn’t the nicest thing to be part of or something that anyone wants to see on the cricket field. I think it did affect the entire group. We still had a chance to make it into the playoffs.”
Unsurprisingly, Rahul was not on the Lucknow Super Giants’ retention list. He has been one of the most consistent batsmen in the IPL in the last few years and is expected to cause a bidding war in the auction.
In the last six seasons, he has scored more than 600 runs in a season four times while also scoring more than 500 runs once. Rahul’s IPL journey began with Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013. He played only one season for the Royal Challengers before being signed up by Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Rahul spent two seasons with the Hyderabad-based outfit before returning to Bengaluru. However, he left Bengaluru after just one season once again before being signed up by Punjab Kings ahead of IPL 2018. In IPL 2018, Rahul enjoyed a breakthrough season.
He scored 659 runs in 14 games with the help of six fifties. That season pretty much established him as one of the elite batsmen in the league. In IPL 2019, Rahul impressed with the bat once again, scoring 593 runs with the help of a century and six half-centuries.
In IPL 2020, he scored 670 runs before scoring 626 runs in IPL 2021. He moved to Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2022 and was also named their captain. In his first season, Rahul led the team from the front. He scored 616 runs including two centuries and four fifties as the Super Giants made it to the playoffs.
In IPL 2023, Rahul did not live up to expectations and scored 274 runs in 9 games. In the last IPL season, Rahul scored 520 runs. Overall, Rahul has played 132 matches in the IPL and has scored 4683 runs with the help of four centuries and 37 half-centuries.
