Kwena Maphaka has registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction at the base price of INR 75 lakh. The South African pacer played for Mumbai Indians in the last edition of the IPL.

Maphaka had initially failed to attract any bid in the auction. Later, Mumbai Indians signed him up as a replacement for injured Dilshan Madushanka. At 17 years old, he became one of the youngest players – both domestic and overseas – to be a part of the IPL.

He first shot to the limelight during the 2024 Under-19 World Cup. Maphaka spearheaded South Africa’s attack and made a big impression. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for picking up an impressive 21 wickets. He also broke the record for taking most wickets in an edition of the U19 World Cup.

However, he struggled to make an impact in the IPL. Kwena played 2 games in his debut IPL season and conceded 89 runs while taking one wicket.

Rajasthan Royals have bought Kwena Maphaka for INR 1.50 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction. Rajasthan Royals made the first bid before Royal Challengers Bengaluru joined the race. In the end, the Royals won the race.
