India National Cricket Team pacer Mohammed Shami has made a return to cricket after a prolonged injury and has been a regular feature for Bengal in domestic cricket. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the fast bowler is likely to play a part for the team in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

But the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) isn’t sure as to when they can send Shami to Australia. However, to ensure that they make the right decision they have been consistently monitoring the premier pacer with still 4 games to go in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

BCCI Sports Science department, along with a national selector, is currently in Rajkot to closely observe the progress of Mohammed Shami

The reports in Cricbuzz suggested that a team from the BCCI Sports Science department, along with a national selector, is currently in Rajkot to closely observe the progress of Mohammed Shami, who is currently representing Bengal in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.

It is learned that the head of the BCCI’s Sports Science wing at the new Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, Nitin Patel along with trainer Nishant Bardule and selector SS Das, have been stationed in the Saurashtra city to monitor Shami and see if he can travel to Australia for the series or not.

The focus of the NCA team is to see if Shami can handle the physical demands of a high-intensity Test match. They aren’t focused on assessing his pace, form, and rhythm but want to see if the pacer can endure the workload of a Test match or not.

The NCA trainer worked with Mohammed Shami till 30th November and has given the pacer some drills to follow. As per the reports, it is learned that BCCI won’t be selecting the fast bowler for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 till he gets clearance from the Sports Science Department.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and the Indian team management are in constant touch with Mohammed Shami

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar and the Indian team management are in constant touch with the progress of Mohammed Shami. A few of the reports last week suggested that the fast bowler will be joining the team ahead of the third game and if that happens, it will be a massive boost for the team.

The BCCI has asked Mohammed Shami to bowl a specific number of deliveries each day, with both his pre-match and post-match conditions being carefully monitored. The fast bowler has been showing positive signs, and it won’t be a surprise if he heads to Australia soon.

India Team management wants Shami to play a few more games before he can be recalled into the team

In the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, Mohammed Shami has looked in decent touch with the ball. He has played four games and has returned with the figures of 1/ 46 against Punjab, 3/21 against Hyderabad, 0/46 against Mizoram, and 0/38 against Madhya Pradesh.

Shami also featured in the Ranji Trophy game for Bengal and had figures of 4 for 54 and 3 for 102 in two innings. But the India National Cricket Team management wants him to play a few more games before he can be recalled into the team.
