Pakistan squads for South Africa tour announced

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have announced their men’s squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa, scheduled to take place from December 10, 2024, to January 7, 2025. The tour will feature three T20Is, three ODIs and two Tests.

In a notable decision, star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi has been excluded from the Test squad, with the selectors opting to manage his workload to keep him in peak condition for future assignments, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Shaheen remains a key part of the limited-overs squads for the South Africa tour.

Test Squad Highlights

Fast bowler Mohammad Abbas makes a comeback to the Test side after last featuring in Jamaica in August 2021. Abbas, who has an impressive 90 wickets in 25 Tests, earned his recall following a stellar Quaid-e-Azam Trophy campaign, where he picked up 31 wickets in just five matches.

ODI & T20I Squad Highlights

Left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Muqeem, who recently made headlines with a record-breaking five-wicket haul in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, has earned his maiden call-up to the ODI squad. His inclusion highlights the selectors’ faith in his ability to perform in multiple formats.

The T20I squad, led by Mohammad Rizwan, are set to leave for South Africa immediately after their ongoing series against Zimbabwe, while the ODI and Test squads will depart on December 13.
