Afghanistan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz has registered himself for the IPL 2025 mega auction at a base price of INR 2 crore.
The opening batsman plied his trade for champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the last edition of the IPL.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s journey in the IPL began in 2022 when eventual champions Gujarat Titans signed him up as a replacement for Jason Roy.
However, he did not play any game for the Gujarat-based outfit in IPL 2022. Ahead of the 2023 season, he was traded to Kolkata Knight Riders.
He made his IPL debut in 2023 and went on to play 11 games. In those 11 games, he scored 227 runs with the help of two half-centuries. In IPL 2024, he once again struggled to get into the playing eleven as Kolkata Knight Riders preferred Phil Salt and Sunil Narine as their openers.
Gurbaz got the chance to open the innings only towards the end of the tournament when Salt left the IPL to join the England team. Gurbaz played 3 games in 2024 and scored 62 runs. After that, he starred with the bat in the T20 World Cup.
He scored 281 runs with the help of 3 fifties and finished the competition as the highest run-scorer. Gurbaz has established himself as one of the best white-ball openers in the world and is expected to attract some teams in the auction.
