Sourav Ganguly and Michael Vaughan

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan said that he received a cheeky message from former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly during the BGT 2024-25 series opener. Michael Vaughan, who predicted a 3-1 victory for Australia, was quickly reminded by Sourav Ganguly not to underestimate Team India.

Sourav Ganguly sent Michael Vaughan a text after India dismissed Australia for 104 and took a 46-run lead at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The visiting team made the most of the lead and declared their second innings at 487/6. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (161) and Virat Kohli (100*) scored centuries for India.

Australia had to chase down 534 to secure the victory in the first Test. However, they managed only 238 runs and lost the series opener by 295 runs. The Men in Blue took a 1-0 lead in the five-match Test series. The second Test between India and Australia is set to begin in Adelaide on December 6.

So The One Has Happened – Michael Vaughan

In the latest episode of Clube Prairie Fire, Michael Vaughan said that Sourav Ganguly sent him a message on Day 2 of the Perth Test. Vaughan revealed that Ganguly texted him, “Hi Michael… My prediction is going well,” teasing him for his earlier prediction of a 3-1 win for Australia.

“I’ll read you something from Sourav, lads. I like humbleness in anyone that comes on the podcast. It’s very important that they’re very humble. But just to read this text message that he sent me. When did the game start? Friday, right? India got bowled out for 150, and then they got Australia for 104. And this arrived at 12 minutes past 5 on Saturday. ‘Hi Michael… My prediction is going well,'” Vaughan said.

“No, we said 3-1, so the one has happened,” added Vaughan.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Is The Best Young Player – Michael Vaughan

Michael Vaughan praised Yashasvi Jaiswal for his exceptional century in his first Test in Australia, calling him the best young player in the world. However, Vaughan criticized Australia’s strategy against the 22-year-old, expressing surprise that they did not use short-pitched bowling early in his innings.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal is the best young player in the world. He gets a nought and then gets 161 – he played defensively, then left the ball – and was flamboyant at the right time. But I was absolutely staggered that Australia didn’t pepper him. Young player, you might as well whack him on the shoulder, get fielders close in. Just do it. Just pepper him for 40-50 minutes,” Vaughan said.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Scores Maiden Hundred on Australian Soil in Perth

Yashasvi Jaiswal, who was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the series opener, scored 161 runs off 297 balls, including 15 fours and 3 sixes, in the second innings. He also shared a record-breaking 201-run opening partnership with KL Rahul.

This partnership became Team India’s highest opening stand in a Test match in Australia. It was Yashasvi Jaiswal’s first international outing on Australian soil. Notably, skipper Rohit Sharma missed the series opener due to the birth of his second child.
