Many were hoping for a praiseworthy display from Vaibhav Suryavanshi when the youngster walked to the crease during India’s run chase of 282 against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on Saturday, November 30.

Fans were hoping to witness a glimpse of the talent that had made him the youngest crorepati in IPL history, but Suryavanshi’s performance fell short of the hype, as his innings ended in a disappointing fashion, departing for just a single after facing nine deliveries against Pakistan.

The young left-hander, who is known for his aggressive playing style, chased a delivery from Pakistan’s Ali Raza that was far outside off stump, resulting in a simple catch to the wicketkeeper. Throughout his short innings, Vaibhav appeared uncomfortable at the crease, looking eager to play aggressive shots, and lost his wicket cheaply against Pakistan.

The Pakistan bowlers maintained tight lines, keeping him under pressure, and in the end, Ali Raza outfoxed him. His early dismissal was a clear indication of the pressure the young star was under, and it put India in a precarious position in their opening match of the Under-19 Asia Cup 2024.

Well, Pakistan crushed India by 43 runs in the Under-19 Asia Cup 2024 Group A game in Dubai. Notably, the Indian U19 side comes into the tournament after registering a 2-0 victory over Australia in an unofficial Test series, while Pakistan entered the event after a tri-nation tournament in the UAE.

Notably, Vaibhav Suryavanshi turned heads when he smashed the fastest century for India’s U19 team in an unofficial Test against Australia U19, reaching the three-figure mark in just 58 balls. He has so far played five Ranji Trophy games since his first-class debut against Mumbai earlier this year.

More recently, Suryavanshi made his T20 debut for Bihar in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) against Rajasthan. In his brief innings, he scored 13 runs off six balls, including two sixes, before being dismissed by seasoned seamer Deepak Chahar.
