PSL draft likely to be held overseas

According to several media reports, the draft for the 10th edition of the Pakistan Super League is likely to be held in a foreign location.

The top two locations that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is targeting for the event are England and Dubai. This is being done by the Pakistan Cricket Board to increase its popularity and get more eyeballs in the league.

The cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions have been held overseas a few times and the biggest cricket league in the world has managed to get a massive viewership on the event. PCB is also hoping for the same with a draft in an overseas venue.

Meanwhile, the registration for the domestic and international players for the PSL 10 draft is likely to start this week.

Pakistan Super League franchises submit list of unsold IPL players to PCB

Reportedly, PSL franchises are targeting overseas stars for the next edition of the league, who went unsold at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

The IPL 2025 mega auction saw several superstars like David Warner, Kane Williamson, Adil Rashid, Alex Carey, Keshav Maharaj, Shai Hope, Daryl Mitchell, and Jonny Bairstow being unsold.

Pakistan Super League franchise owners have already finalized the players whom they want to feature in the draft and submitted the list to PCB.

The talks between the agents of the players and officials of Pakistan are already underway, and PCB would be desperate to rope in big names for the draft as the next edition of the league is set to clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL), and it will directly impact the viewership of the Pakistan-based league.

Why will PSL clash with IPL?

The Pakistan Super League will clash with the Indian Premier League because of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Pakistan are set to host the multi-nation tournament in February-March next year. This is the same window in which the Pakistan Super League has been played over the years.

However, due to the ICC tournament, the Pakistan Cricket Board has been forced to conduct the league to another window. After several meetings, the April-May window has been selected for PSL.

This means that the Pakistan Super League will run alongside the Indian Premier League, which has got an exclusive window of March to May.

Talking about the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the schedule of the competition is yet to be announced despite it being a few months away.

The delay has been caused due to the tussle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the Pakistan Cricket Board as India have rejected to travel to Pakistan and demanded the entire tournament to be held in a hybrid model.
