Devon Conway will miss the third Test against England in Hamilton as he awaits the birth of his first child. The Black Caps opener has been granted leave to be with his family during this significant time.

New Zealand coach Gary Stead expressed the team’s support for Conway in his official statement. “Family comes first in this environment and we’re all really excited for Dev and his wife Kim to welcome their first child,” he said.

In Conway’s absence, Will Young is set to reclaim his spot at the top of the order. Young was named player of the series during New Zealand’s historic 3-0 Test series victory over India last month, scoring 244 runs at an average of 48.40. He had been a spectator for the last two Tests against England, where the team has struggled, losing both matches comprehensively and trailing 2-0 in the series.

Additionally, Mark Chapman has been added to the wider squad, having recently made headlines with an impressive score of 276 in the Plunket Shield. His recent form could provide valuable depth as the Black Caps look to bounce back from their disappointing performances against England.

Conway’s recent form had been under scrutiny, with a top score of just 22 in his last seven Test innings. His struggles continued in the ongoing series against England, where he managed scores of 2, 8, 11 and a duck in four innings.

The third Test between New Zealand and England is scheduled to begin on Friday at Seddon Park in Hamilton. As the Black Caps prepare for this crucial match, they will be looking to make necessary adjustments to their lineup and regain momentum against an English side that has already secured an unassailable lead in the series.
