Star India batter Shreyas Iyer has been officially appointed as the captain of Punjab Kings (PBKS) for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The announcement marks a significant move for the 30-year-old, who has been in phenomenal form both as a player and a leader over the past year.
Iyer, who captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to an IPL title in the 2024 edition, was released by the franchise in the subsequent off-season. Punjab Kings secured his services for a staggering INR 26.74 crore during the IPL 2025 auction, making him the second most expensive buy of the season.
A stellar year for Shreyas Iyer
Notably, the past 12 months have been a career-defining period for Iyer. Apart from leading KKR to victory in the 2024 IPL, he also captained Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title, showcasing his leadership capabilities across formats.
With multiple accolades under his belt, Iyer’s appointment as the Punjab Kings skipper comes as no surprise. His ability to lead teams to success makes him a valuable asset for the franchise, which has been striving for its maiden IPL title.
