Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25: Punjab’s Anmolpreet Singh shatters Yusuf Pathan’s List A record

It’s not everyday that record books are re-written. But the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy is set to change the norm by setting the record books straight. This is evident as right on the opening day of the prestigious tournament, Punjab’s Anmolpreet SIngh has broken a record to prove his prowess to the cricketing world. 

Anmolpreet Singh’s blitzkrieg on Arunachal Pradesh bowlers breaks List A record 

Up until now, Yusuf Pathan held the record for fastest hundred in an List-A game in India. The cricketer-turned-MP played an unbeaten 108 run-knock for his domestic side, Baroda, chasing a total of 231 runs from Maharashtra during the 2009-10 edition of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. With the help of a storming knock from Pathan, Baroda managed to achieve the target within 36 overs.

That record from Pathan is now history as Anmolpreet, representing his domestic side, Punjab has managed to hit a century in just 35 balls against Arunachal Pradesh in the opening game of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. With this incredible innings, Anmolpreet now holds the record for the fastest first-class century in India and third-fastest around the world, only behind Jake Fraser Mc-Gurk and AB de Villiers who scored a List-A century in 29 and 31 balls respectively.

Punjab dominated Arunachal in the opening Group C clash 

Arunachal Pradesh were completely decimated in the opening clash of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The North-Eastern side were disappointing with the bat as they were bowled out for 164 runs in 48.4 overs. In return, Punjab managed to achieve the target in just 12.5 overs thanks to a scintillating knock from Anmolpreet in which he scored runs with the strike rate of a whopping 255.56. His 115 run-knock had 9 towering sixes and 12 boundaries. Punjab will face Nagaland in their next match of the prestigious tournament. They are currently pooled with strong domestic sides like Mumbai, Karnataka, Hyderabad and Saurashtra.
