India’s left-arm spinner Axar Patel looked in superb form with the ball during the team’s opening match of Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh. Axar came into the attack in the eighth over of the match but didn’t take much time to get amongst the wickets.
In just his second ball of the day, Axar Patel angled across a ball bowled from around the wicket. Tanzid Hasan tried to punch the ball through the off-side but the ball didn’t turn and went straight. Tanzid got an edge and the catch was sharply taken by KL Rahul behind the wickets.
Axar wasn’t convinced that the batter had been dismissed and didn’t let out an appeal. However, the wicketkeeper KL Rahul was fully convinced that there was an edge and immediately went up. After an appeal, the umpire Paul Reiffel ruled the batter out following a delay.
Tanzid had a discussion with the non-striker Towhid Hridoy but eventually decided to walk away. Later, it was found that the batter had nicked the ball behind and Rahul was right to go up in an appeal.
