Jasprit Bumrah stole the show off the field with his wit and humor after Day 3 of the ongoing third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 between India and Australia at The Gabba in Brisbane.
Following a tough day for India, Bumrah lightened the mood during a press conference when asked about the tourists’ underwhelming batting performance in Brisbane. India’s top order once again faltered under pressure, struggling against the relentless pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins in the crucial third Test against Australia.
Jasprit Bumrah defends team unity while playfully addressing India’s batting woes in BGT 2024-25
The Indian cricket team ended a rain-affected Day 3 at 51/4, trailing Australia’s massive first-innings total of 445 in the ongoing third Test match at The Gabba in Brisbane. After the end of Day 3, the journalist’s question about India’s batting woes took a humorous turn as Jasprit Bumrah playfully shifted attention to his batting credentials.
In a light-hearted moment, the Indian pacer suggested the media personnel check Google about his batting ability. The Indian pacer playfully reminded the journalist of his world record for scoring the most runs in a single over in Test cricket. His witty response sparked laughter among the journalists in the press conference room.
Reporter asked Jasprit Bumrah at the press conference: “Hi, Jasprit. What is your assessment of the batting? Although you are not the best person to answer the question, what do you think about the situation of the team, considering the conditions in Gabba?”
You are questioning my batting ability: Jasprit Bumrah to journalist
Bumrah replied by saying, “It’s an interesting question. But you are questioning my batting ability? You should use Google and see who has got the most number of runs in a Test over. But, jokes apart. That’s another story.”
Actually, Bumrah was referring to his iconic 34-run over against Stuart Broad during an England vs India Test match in Birmingham back in 2022, where he hammered the experienced pacer for three fours and three sixes during his knock.
However, the Indian vice-captain stressed that they don’t point fingers at each other in the Indian cricket team, stressing unity in the team and backing each other in every situation.
Well, Bumrah further said, “See, we don’t as a team point fingers at each other, and we don’t want to get into that mindset where we are pointing fingers at each other [and say] that ‘you should do this, you should do that.’.”

Jasprit Bumrah defends his fellow Indian pacers, says ‘we’re in transition’
Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah supported his fellow Indian bowlers, who have faced criticism for their lack of support for him in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While the rest of the Indian seamers have collectively taken 19 wickets so far in the Test series in Brisbane, Bumrah has led the attack with an impressive 18 wickets on his own.
Bumrah signed off by saying, “Obviously, as a bowling unit, as I said, we are in transition, so it’s my job to help the others. I have played a little more than them, so I am trying to help them. But again, everyone will learn through it, will get better, and eventually will find different ways. So this is the journey that you’ll have to go through.”
