Jasprit Bumrah Castles Pat Cummins

Jasprit Bumrah is looking excellent with the pink ball, but Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head have already done enough damage in the ongoing Day-Night Test match between India and Australia at the Adelaide Oval as the hosts took the upper hand in Adelaide.

Bumrah got India a good start on Day 2 of the ongoing second Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, but some dropped catches and a couple of poor decisions left the tourists behind in the game against Australia.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full delivery at 139 kph, swinging in, and Cummins attempted to drive, but he was beaten on the inside edge. The ball slightly nipped in, and brushed the top of his back pad before crashing into the stumps.

The umpires check for a no-ball, but Bumrah has already done his job with extreme finesse to help India get the eighth wicket before the dinner break on Day 2 of the ongoing Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval.

India conceded Australia a lead of 157 runs, so it won’t be easy for the tourists to script a comeback victory over the hosts in the Pink-ball Test in Adelaide. In the history of Day-Night Tests, only twice have teams managed to stage a remarkable comeback after conceding a first innings lead.

The first instance was in 2018, when Sri Lanka won the Day-Night Test by 50 runs against West Indies in Bridgetown. The second was in 2020, when Australia defeated India by 53 runs at the same venue in Adelaide. Both comebacks remain iconic in the Day-Night Test cricket history.

On the other hand, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravichandran Ashwin have dismissed Labuschagne and Mitchell Marsh, respectively. For Australia, Head smoked a ton while Labuschagne got a stunning fifty against India in the ongoing secod BGT Test in Adelaide.

It remains to see whether India would stage a memorable comeback, but one thing is certain: they need some big innings from their top players to post a challenging target on the board against Australia in the ongoing Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide.
