In an encounter between the Perth Scorchers and the Melbourne Renegades at the Perth Stadium during the 26th match of the Big Bash League 2024-25, Kane Richardson’s superb delivery was one of the highlights of the first innings. The Renegades’ medium-fast bowler produced a moment of brilliance to dismiss Perth Scorchers’ captain Ashton Turner.
Kane Richardson’s masterful delivery sends Ashton Turner packing
It was the 7th over of the Perth Scorchers’ innings when Richardson came in to bowl to Turner. On a good length, the ball nipped back into the right-handed Turner, who had no choice but to go for an ambitious drive. However, with his feet barely moving, Turner left a sizable gap between bat and pad, and the ball crashed into the stumps, leaving Turner stunned. The Scorchers’ skipper was out for just 8 runs off 13 balls, and the Renegades had their fourth wicket of the match.

Adam Zampa shines with the ball for the Melbourne Renegades
Perth Scorchers were asked to bat first and managed to post a total of 147 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their 20 overs. The team struggled with the bat, with only a few notable contributions. Ashton Agar was the standout performer, scoring a valiant 51 runs off 30 balls, helping his team reach a competitive total in the first innings. The Melbourne Renegades’ bowling attack was led by Adam Zampa, who put on an impressive performance. Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets and providing the much-needed breakthroughs to keep the Scorchers under control.
Teams on opposite ends of the standings
Both teams entered the match with different forms. The Perth Scorchers, sitting fifth on the points table with 6 points, have struggled with consistency, suffering a 4-wicket defeat to the Sydney Thunder in their previous match. On the other hand, the Melbourne Renegades were just below them in sixth place, with 4 points, and were reeling from three consecutive losses, including a 5-wicket defeat to the Melbourne Stars in their last outing. This match was crucial for both teams to bounce back and gain some momentum in the competition.
