The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has always been a platform for thrilling cricket, but the recent match between Sylhet Strikers and Khulna Tigers took an unexpected turn when tensions boiled over between players. On January 12, 2025, during Match 17 of the tournament, a physical confrontation erupted between Bangladesh bowler Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz, capturing the attention of fans and pundits alike.
Tanzim Hasan gets into intense confrontation with Mohammad Nawaz
The drama unfolded in the 17th over of the match, with Khulna Tigers chasing a target of 183 runs. After delivering a well-executed slower ball, Tanzim dismissed Nawaz, who managed to score 33 runs off 18 balls before being caught at third man by Zakir Hasan. This wicket was crucial as it left Khulna struggling at 130 runs for six wickets in 16.1 overs.
Following the dismissal, Tanzim was seen exchanging words with Nawaz, which quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. The two players bumped into each other aggressively, prompting umpires and teammates to intervene and separate them before the situation worsened. Such altercations are rare in cricket, a sport often characterized by its spirit of sportsmanship.

Sylhet Strikers’ triumph over Khulna Tigers
Despite the on-field drama, Sylhet Strikers managed to secure an eight-run victory over Khulna Tigers. After being put to bat first, Sylhet had a rocky start, losing two early wickets for just 15 runs. However, Rony Talukdar and Zakir steadied the innings with a remarkable partnership of 106 runs off just 62 balls. Zakir’s unbeaten score of 75 runs off 46 balls earned him the Player of the Match award.
In response, Khulna Tigers fell short at 174 runs for nine wickets in their allotted overs. Despite William Bosisto‘s commendable effort of scoring 43 runs off 40 balls, they could not chase down the target set by Sylhet. The bowling attack from Sylhet was impressive, with Tanzim himself taking two wickets alongside Reece Topley and Ruyel Miyah.
