Later, Mohammed Siraj delivered a good-length ball angled in, sliding down the leg side as Steve Smith shuffled across to glance it fine. Unfortunately, the right-hander got a faint edge, and the ball went down the leg side.

Showcasing excellent reflexes, Indian keeper Rishabh Pant dived full length to his left to take a stunning catch as the ball kept moving away with the angle. Mohammed Siraj was pumped up after taking the big wicket, as Smith departed for 4 off 5 balls, and Australia found themselves in deep trouble, losing half their side for just 33 runs at that moment against India in the Gabba Test.

Virat Kohli needs Gautam Gambhir-Abhishek Nayar’s help?

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is struggling with a recurring issue—balls outside the off-stump. In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, all of Kohli’s dismissals have come from edging deliveries pitched on the fourth or fifth stump against Australia.

Despite his immense skill and fitness, Virat Kohli seems unable to find a solution to this problem. At 36, reflexes and muscle memory play a bigger role than sheer fitness, and that’s where Kohli is facing challenges. Kohli looks in perfect form at the nets, but he continues to play at those outside off-stump deliveries during the matches, leading to his frustrating dismissals.

With India paying the price for this recurring flaw, former India batter Devang Gandhi suggested that it’s time for the coaches to step in and work closely with Kohli. Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and assistant-cum-batting coach Abhishek Nayar must dedicate time to help Kohli address this weakness. However, Gandhi felt finding a solution won’t be easy for Kohli.
