Virat Kohli captained the Test team from 2014 to 2022 in 68 matches and led them to 48 wins. He lost just 17 matches as the red-ball skipper and had a win percentage of 58.82.

From time to time, he has been seen assisting skipper Rohit Sharma on the field. A similar kind of thing happened on Day 1 of the Adelaide Test.

He gave some fielding suggestions to captain Rohit Sharma to break the partnership between Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne.

In the 17th over, Virat Kohli went towards Rohit and had a small chat with him. It looked like he gave some suggestions to Rohit Sharma and, after that, instructed Siraj to change the field.

“They have to make the batters play as much as they can. And this is what happens when you make the batters play as much as you can.

“You can set them up by bowling a couple of deliveries outside and then get the ball to move back in, as it did to Nathan McSweeney in the Perth Test, or to Labuschagne in the Perth Test, like what Bumrah did. The Indian bowlers have not really used the pink ball as well as they should have,” Gavaskar said.
