Young Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was not happy with the third umpire’s decision regarding his dismissal in the second innings of the fourth Test match against Australia. Yashasvi Jaiswal argued with the on-field umpires after being given out caught behind despite no spike in the UltraEdge replays.
Earlier, Australia resumed day five at 229/8. Australian tailenders Scott Boland and Nathan Lyon added six more runs to the total. Jasprit Bumrah quickly wrapped up the innings by dismissing Lyon for 41 runs. Bumrah took his 13th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, finishing with figures of 5-57 from 24.4 overs.
Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal Argues with Umpires After His Controversial Dismissal
The incident took place on the fifth ball of the 71st over in India’s second innings. Pat Cummins bowled the short ball as part of the planned field setup, and Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted a pull shot, but he gloved it. Alex Carey dived forward to take the catch just above the ground. However, the on-field umpire ruled not out.
Australia took the Decision Review System (DRS) for a caught-behind appeal. Replays showed no spike on the UltraEdge, but the third umpire, Sharfuddoula, overturned the on-field call based on his decision from the visual evidence of the glove contact. Jaiswal expressed his dissatisfaction and argued with the umpires.
“I can see the ball has made contact with the gloves. Joel, you need to change your decision,” the third umpire said.

They Can Make of It What They Like – Ricky Ponting
Ricky Ponting, who was on the commentary panel, shared his views on the controversial dismissal. He said that it was evident that the ball had hit the glove despite Snicko not confirming a clear spike. Ponting mentioned that Yashasvi Jaiswal had started to walk before the decision was reviewed.
“Yeah, they can make of it what they like, that clearly hit the glove. And according to the time, Jaiswal actually started to walk. As soon as he went upstairs, he started to take a couple of steps away. Snicko hasn’t proven it to be correct, but the umpire picked up the deflection, froze it where the ball was on the end of the glove. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no argument whatsoever,” Ponting said.

India Suffered Dramatic Collapse After Lunch Break on Day 5
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a patient 84 off 208 balls, including eight fours, before being dismissed. He added 88 runs in partnership with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket. However, India lost quick wickets early in the afternoon session. After the break, Travis Head dismissed Pant with a short ball.
This dismissal triggered a brief collapse, with India losing three wickets for just 9 runs. Ravindra Jadeja was dismissed after gloving a rising ball from Scott Boland, and Nitish Kumar Reddy was caught by Steve Smith off Nathan Lyon. Jaiswal was sent back to be dismissed in India’s run chase of 340 on day 5.
