Prithvi Shaw dropped for Ranji Trophy 2024-25

Mumbai opening batter Prithvi Shaw has once again grabbed headlines for his social media antics. While others are busy preparing for the next round of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25, Shaw took time from his workout to express his frustration at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA).

Actually, Prithvi Shaw has shared yet another cryptic post on Instagram after being left out of the Mumbai squad for their next Ranji Trophy 2024-25 clash against Jammu & Kashmir, starting January 23. However, this time, the right-handed has openly attacked the Mumbai selectors.

Prithvi Shaw’s frustration boils again after being omitted from Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy 2024-25 squad

Earlier, the out-of-favor Indian opener was dropped by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) midway through the first leg of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 due to fitness and discipline reasons. However, Shaw was called back for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25.

But the once-promising talent failed to live up to expectations in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2024-25, where he could manage just 197 runs in nine innings, with a highest score of 49. This form forced the MCA and Mumbai selectors to overlook Shaw for the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2024-25.

However, this decision didn’t go down well with Shaw, as he took to social media to slam Mumbai for dropping him for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. He had posted an emotional message on Instagram, which reads: “Tell me, God, what more do I have to see… If 65 innings, 3399 runs at an average of 55.7 with a strike rate of 126, I’m not good enough… But I will keep my faith in you, and hopefully people believe in me still… because I will come back for sure. Om Sai Ram.”

This didn’t sit well with the MCA, as the state body official reportedly claimed that neither Ranji Trophy captain Ajinkya Rahane nor SMAT and VHT captain Shreyas Iyer were happy with Prithvi Shaw’s attitude. He also claimed that Shaw was partying until 6 AM during the SMAT and wasn’t following his fitness plan given to him.

Well, Shaw’s fitness and form have been a hot topic for a long time now, and his social media outbursts have very often worked against him, but he again and again repeats the same mistake.

However, the Indian cricketer has been working hard on his fitness after playing in the Police Shield tournament, but yet again, he was overlooked by the MCA and Mumbai selectors for the next round of the ongoing Ranji season.

After being snubbed for Mumbai’s Ranji clash against Jammu & Kashmir, Prithvi Shaw added fuel to the fire by launching a fresh attack on the MCA. The opening batter said that they could drop him but couldn’t stop him from working without mentioning anything or anybody.

Notably, Shaw played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I match for India and scored over 500 runs. He was last seen in an India jersey in 2021. Apart from Mumbai and India, he also failed to attract any franchise in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
