Australia batter Travis Head has been the most successful batter of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The middle-order batter has been in brilliant form throughout the series so far and continues to give sleepless nights to the Indian bowlers.

While the other Australian batters have struggled against India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, Head has successfully tackled this threat with his aggression and skills. Former Australia batter Greg Chappell has revealed the success mantra that has brought success to Travis Head so far.

Chappell feels that Head’s ability to counter Bumrah and treat him like any other bowler has given him tremendous success so far. Chappell hailed Head’s proactive mindset and fearless approach which makes him the best batter of the series in the first three Tests.

Greg Chappell hails Travis Head’s “fearless approach” against Jasprit Bumrah

While writing for his column in the Sydney Morning Herald, Greg Chappell revealed the reason why Travis Head has been successful against Jasprit Bumrah when the other batters have struggled. Chappell claimed that Head has treated Bumrah like any other bowler and has played him with intent which has also disrupted Bumrah’s rhythm.

“(Travis) Head’s performances against Jasprit Bumrah in this series exemplify his fearless approach. While most batsmen struggle to survive Bumrah’s unorthodox action, sharp pace, and relentless accuracy, Head has treated him like any other bowler,” Chappell wrote.

“By playing with intent and looking to score off Bumrah, Head has not only nullified his threat but disrupted his rhythm. His ability to dispatch short deliveries with authority and drive fuller ones with precision has been remarkable, underscoring the strides he has made,” he added.

Travis Head has scored 409 runs in three Tests so far at an average of 81.80 with two hundreds and one fifty. Interestingly, he has scored all his runs at a blistering strike rate of 94.23.

While Bumrah has picked up 21 wickets in three Tests and troubled almost all Australian batters so far, he has an average record against Head. The star Australian has scored 83 runs off Bumrah at a strike rate of 91.2 and has been dismissed just twice so far.

Further praising Travis Head, Greg Chappell even called for him to be the next Australian captain after Pat Cummins. He called Head the most improved batter across formats over the last three years and even claimed that his aggressive style reflects the Australian style.

“I believe Travis (Head) to be the most improved batter in world cricket in the past three years and in becoming so, has firmed in favouritism to be the next Australian captain. In his current form, Travis exemplifies the Australian way of batting,” the former India head coach noted.

Travis Head has played numerous important knocks over the last two years. He scored a cracking hundred in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final against India to take Australia to a memorable title win. Head scored a fiery 163 off 174 balls in the final and also won the Player of the Match award.

The left-hander didn’t stop here and slammed a brilliant hundred in the ODI World Cup 2023 final, also against India. He scored 137 off 120 balls in the summit clash and struck 15 fours and 4 sixes to take Australia to a title win over the home favorites.
