Twitter reactions: Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal shine as India beat Ireland in the 3rd ODI to complete series whitewash

The Indian women’s team has scripted history in the 3rd and final ODI of the series against Ireland in many senses. But, more importantly it was a solid display from the team to clinch a record win and assert their dominance over the Irish team. The dominance of the team also went out as a glimpse of the kind of form the Indian team is in and the invincible run on their home soil.

India put together a towering total against Ireland

The match started with India winning the toss and elected to bat first. The Indian innings got off to a flying start with openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal storming the Irish bowlers and put together a momentous partnership which lasted for 26.4 overs. The two openers put together a gigantic partnership of 233 runs for the 1st wicket to provide India the base for a huge total. Mandhana, the stand-in skipper of the Indian team scripted history by scoring the fastest century for Indian women’s cricket in ODI format off just 70 balls. The innings was star-studded with 12 boundaries and 7 sixes before getting dismissed by Orla Prendergast.

But the Indian onslaught continued, Rawal and wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh kept smashing the Ireland bowlers and stormed 337 runs with 13 overs remaining. Rawal impressed the cricketing community with her impeccable shot selection and technique to play a 154-run knock off 129 balls.

The Indian innings came to a close at a mammoth 435 runs at the end of 50 overs for 6 wickets in hand. Middle-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma were unbeaten on the crease. This was the highest ever total for the Indian team in ODI format and the 4th highest in overall women’s cricket history.

Irish batters’ dreadful display for a humiliating loss

After the bowlers took a beating, it was the time for the Irish batters to continue the horror-show. The entire Irish batting order failed to leave a mark on the match and fell like a pack of cards in front of the Indian team’s total. Sarah Forbes and Prendergast did try to offer some resistance but the counter-attack only lasted for a short time.

The Indian bowling too, impressed in a similar fashion to the batters. Spinner Deepti took 3 Irish wickets and gave away 27 runs. Tanuja Kanwar took 2 while Titas Sadhu, Minnu Mani and Sayali Satghare took 1 wicket each.
