Australia batter Nathan McSweeney pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss Indian opener KL Rahul at gully during Day 1 of the ongoing second Test. Nathan McSweeney’s stunning catch gave the hosts the chance to end the partnership between KL Rahul and Shubman Gill in the first innings of the match.

Australia made a solid start with the ball after losing the toss at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Friday, December 6. Left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc removed Yashasvi Jaiswal on the first ball of the Test match. Starc trapped the left-handed batter in front of the stumps to put Australia on top.

On the fourth ball of the 19th over, KL Rahul failed to get on top of a short ball, and it flew off his bat. McSweeney dived forward to complete a low catch. Starc provided the breakthrough in his new spell in the first innings. Rahul had to depart to the dressing room after scoring 37 runs off 64 balls.

KL Rahul Survived Twice in Scott Boland’s First Over on Day 1

KL Rahul had a nervous start in the second Test against Australia. He was initially dismissed for a duck when he edged Scott Boland’s delivery to Alex Carey. Rahul walked off the field, but the dismissal was ruled out due to a no-ball. He got another life when Usman Khawaja dropped a catch at third slip.

Rahul added a 69-run partnership with Shubman Gill after the early loss of Yashasvi Jaiswal. The batting duo looked good and expected to play without losing further wickets in the first session on the first day. However, Mitchell Starc removed Rahul and Virat Kohli before Scott Boland dismissed Gill.

At the time of writing this article, India was at 82/4 in 23 overs, with wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant (4) and skipper Rohit Sharma (1) at the crease.

Australian opener Nathan McSweeney is eager to prove himself in the second Test against India in Adelaide after a challenging debut in Perth. McSweeney feels confident playing on familiar turf and is determined to show his capabilities in front of a home crowd, despite scoring 10 and 0 in his first match.

“I got two pretty good balls over there in Perth, so I’m not trying to dwell on it too much and look forward to Adelaide,” McSweeney told Cricket Australia’s media arm.

“I’ve played well out here, and it’s my home ground. So I’m looking forward to getting in front of a home crowd and most importantly, a wicket that I’ve played heaps of cricket on and that I know really well,” he added.
