India’s struggles continued on Day 3 of the all-important Test in Brisbane on Monday, December 16. The Pat Cummins-led team posted a total of 445 runs in the first innings. India got off to a disastrous start with the bat. Jaiswal started his innings with a four on the first ball but was dismissed on the next.

The dismissal came after Yashasvi Jaiswal attempted a flick shot off Mitchell Starc to a delivery on middle and leg. He placed it straight into the hands of Mitchell Marsh, who was at short square leg. Starc, who had been sledged by Jaiswal in the first Test match in Perth, mocked him by letting out his tongue.

Starc Has Decided, “I Will Bowl One on Leg with This Man” – Kerry O’Keeffe

During warm-ups, Jaiswal practiced to a ball thrown at his legs, hitting it hard but grimacing as it struck a Cricket Australia cameraman. Two deliveries later, he faced another ball on his legs. This time, his flick shot sent the ball straight to Mitchell Marsh.

“Can you imagine the catch would be there? The man just in front of square, acres of space on the on side and Jaiswal hits it straight to the fielder,” Ravi Shastri said.

“Everything pointed to an off-side assault, Starc has decided I will bowl one on the leg with this man perfectly placed at short mid-wicket,” former Australian cricketer Kerry O’Keeffe said.

“They are joyous, the tactics have worked, and the danger man is gone… the first Indian wicket down the second ball of the innings. The strategic guy in charge of the bowling unit has got that dead right, that’s why they were so happy,” he added.
